Shards of Eberron
A rowdy thrill seeking Dragonborn former millitary
Krogans story begins where all stories begin, the begining. He was born the second son of Trask GaNeel lord of one of the last ancient Cities in the Dragonborn homeland.
Being the Second son, and not in direct line to be the heir Kroganwould often play with the children in the merchants square. As a child this was overlooked and almost encouraged. But, as Krogan grew older there was a tension growing. It wasn’t until Melik, first born of Trask and heir to the family seat, reprimanded Krogan for associating with the lower caste that he learned where the tension originated from.
Still, he has learned to enjoy the company of the small folk. The merchants would show him their crafts and he would try his best to learn them. A trait for which he showed most promise was smithing. He would make trinkets and give them to the children, or other odd things around the city under the guise of Kriv the Crafter.
These outting continued regularly without a problem until Krogan reached adulthood. At the age of eighteen he fell in love. Unfortunatly, the object of his love was among the lowest caste. Krogan kept their relationship a secret even their marriage until Selen became pregnant. Krogan refused to have any child of his ancient bloodline raised with a lie. So Krogan went before his father to tell him of his secret and of his future grandchild.
Trask GaNeel was a just man, but proud and deeply troubled by his sons choice of suitor. Nontheless he allowed the marriage to hold and the boy was born Trask GaNeel the Second. The Nobles could not hise their disdain for the child. His very existance was a stain on their pride and soon they begain to plot.
Melik was the first to notice the nobles uprising and to prevent a rebellion took action. While Krogan was away hunting with his father, Melik abducted Selen and Little Trask and took them to a place outside the city where a Mercenary band awaited him. The orders he gave were simple. “I never want to see these two again.” he then handed over a sachel of coins, and left.
Later the next day when Krogan returned home he went to greet his wife and son to find them missing. He began to ask around but nobody had seen them since the night before.
Melik approached his brother in his chambers as he was preparing to gather a search party. He told Krogan not to bother with the search party. Krogan at first thought that ment that they had been found but then Melik went on. To inform him that they hadn’t been found and probably never would be.
Anger began to whell up from Krogan but he kept it in check and instead asked where his family was. Melik’s sighed at his brothers ignorance. " I tried to warn you not to associate with the lower caste. your actions put the entire family in danger. something had to be done. So, I has the abomination and upstart removed, permenantly.."
Upon hearing his brothers words a rage whelled up so great in Krogan that he lost his control he lept to his brothers throat like a rabid dog, and with one hand lifted him into the air. Melik kicked and clawed at his brothers arms but years of doing menial chores with the small folk had made Krogan the stronger of the two. One last time he asked his brother where his wife and son were. this time all Melik said was " I am sorry, but…" he didn’t have time to finish before Krogan crushed his throat in his fist. " I am sorry too brother, sorry that your blindness caused your death."
Leaving his brothers body where it lie, Krogan began searching outside the city for his family. Not a days march from the city he came across a used campsite, He couldn’t tell how many had been here or when they had left, but what he did know is that they were the ones who had taken his wife and child. Among the clearing he found dried blood stains and when he followed the trail it let him to a tattered dress. The dress was his wife’s he was sure of that. looking around there were no trace of bodies all that remained was the dress. He bent over and picked it up cluching it tightly to his chest he then began to sob.
His father came upon him in this state and ordered him to be captured. Krogan didn’t put up a fight he just held the tattered dress and wept.
when they returned to the city a trial was held. Krogan was tried for Fratricide and Regicide. The result was Death. Trask not wanting to witness the death two of his sons, Asked his Krogan why he had done it. Krogan with fire in his eyes gave one word as a reply. “Justice” Shaking his head his father Told his son " being a vigalante has its conciquences. The people will not let this sit so.." Turning to the rest of the court Trask raised his voice so all could hear. “On this Day Justice will be served, Justice was the cause of Meliks death and Justice shall also take Krogans life. On this day let it be Known that Krogan GaNeel is dead. Furthermore, Kriv the Crafter is exiled until Justice finds those who stole my grandchild from me. Justice must be served” with a halfhearted nod the assembly of lords agreed and Krogan was stripped of all his finery and placed in rags.
The next morning Kriv the Crafter was marched to the city gates, many of the small people looked on as the boy they watched grow up was forced to leave forever. At the city gates Trask stopped and stared hard at his son then as Kriv was about to turn and walk away stopped him. He walked to his Mount and removed a large package from the saddle. Trask looked at the parcel then tossed it to the ground beside Kriv, it gave off a metalic clang as it struck the ground.
“That is the Ax that killed Krogan, May it help to keep Kriv alive until he can bring its edge to those who stole my sons.”
Kriv untied the parcel to find a large ax with the name “Justice” engraved on the blade. Thanking his father one last time he departed.
Kriv wandered the world of Ebberon for years searching for leads to the people who took his wife and son. He searched for what felt like forever before he began to despair. It wasn;t too long until he found himself drinking his sorrows away. He began to take work as a mercenary to support himself and found that battle also kept his mind off of that which was taken from him.
Kriv lived each day as if it was his last drinking and Fighting as if tomorrow would never come. He enlisted as a soldier and soon found himself in the war. There he met Travik and Tayln who for some reason had become like brothers. Tayln had a daughter and adopted son who began calling him uncle.
Soon after the war Kriv found himself a regular around Tayln’s. He never told anyone his true name or why he had been exliled although he suspected that Tayln knew. In all life was starting to become better for kriv although sometimes at night when no one was around Kriv would think about his wife or wonder about how old his son would be and cry himself to sleep.
